Finally, after a week of torment, I was able to play the recently released game “Bioshock Infinite”. The first thing I remember most upon arrival (those who played will understand what I mean) is the city of Columbia itself, floating surrounded by snow-white clouds. I will not ask questions regarding the plausibility and realism of such a city from the point of view of physics. I just want to share with you the impressions that I had while I was walking around Colombia.
The first thing that catches your eye is a certain fixation on issues of faith. Don’t think that I have a negative attitude towards religion, but I don’t like fanaticism. Unfortunately, it is the fanatics who are the first to meet on the path of the protagonist. And the lighthouse itself, which he climbs at the very beginning of the game, is full of quotes from the Bible that hint at the foundations of religion in the flying city. What can we say about excerpts from either prayer or local Holy Scripture that one encounters along the way?. In addition, you cannot enter the city without going through the baptismal ceremony. I probably won’t be able to express in words how passionately I wanted to finally escape from this sanctuary. All these boiling white robes, floating candles, monuments to the Founding Fathers to whom believers pray, their lengthy monologues – all this looked more like a shelter for the mentally ill than a monastery.

Everything is so bright, colorful and odious that it is difficult to believe in the reality of what is happening. The local utopian society seems too right that you want to pinch yourself to wake up. There are only cheerful and peace-loving people around. Children play in water pouring from a broken hydrant. The carriage is pulled by a mechanical horse. Singing quartet on the stage of a floating mini-theater. The audience surrounded the mechanical and humanoid marvel of engineering, evoking memories of King Kong. The surrounding reality looks so sickly correct that you involuntarily look for some black dot that would spoil this blissful existence. I would like to at least catch a glimpse of the dark, hidden underside of this city, which, like a growth on the pink skin of the local utopia, would burst, revealing to the world the rotten essence of this paradise. New Eden, as the natives call it.
Chu what do I hear?! A married couple is arguing near a small bench! This is already interesting! No, don’t think, I’m not the one who will clean up dirty laundry and shed light on the skeletons in other people’s closets. Just here it is, that same black dot! This means that this city is not as holy and blessed as it tries to look! This means that after all, this is all false, a screen for the eyes of unsuspecting townspeople! This means that there is rot here too, which is disguised as a pimple on the face of a local beauty!
God it’s me?! Maybe I’m exaggerating and it all just seems to me?! Maybe I have become so callous and cynical that I am not ready to accept real heaven on Earth?! Who knows. Okay, I need to continue on my way and find this girl, Elizabeth. After all, the life of my hero depends on it.
