Sometimes it turns out that excessive ambitions and hopes for the success of the original can play a cruel joke on the expected sequel. Some developers let everything go at random, expecting that the project will at least pay off, and at maximum… In general, it seems that the developers from Lucas Arts got tired of alginic caviar and decided to feast on delicacies., bringing to public attention his new creation Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2.
At one time, the first Force Unleashed was, if not a hit project from this studio, then a very high-quality game that earned a crowd of fans and a lot of both positive and negative reviews. The plot of the game logically fit into the atmosphere of Star Wars and told us about the fate of Darth Vader’s secret student, nicknamed Starkiller. The first part made it clear that there should be no continuation, but as you know, if there was a desire, a method of resurrection would be found.
The events of the second part start at the imperial cloning base, where the main Gascon musketeer with the last name Vader, as if by chance, puzzles us with the theory of our own origin. So, the newly revived Starkiller bursts with heat from all restored places, simultaneously controlling two laser sabers, thins space with arbitrary jolts of force and a stern look worthy of Chuck Norris, incinerates enemies with lightning.
Force Unleashed 2 greets us with updated graphics that make us look at the futuristic beauty of distant galaxies in a new way. But all these flattering words relate only to our adventures on the planet Kato Neimoidia. Unfortunately, the developers decided that three locations would be enough for already greedy players, with the first and last being fantasies on the “corridor” theme.

Now we have the opportunity to turn the heads of our opponents, forcing the poor fellows to attack their own comrades. It looks quite funny, and combined with the toasted stormtroopers, it actually resembles a comedy. But it’s no joke – just a couple of new skills top off the improved combat system. The role-playing element, which quite successfully motivates the murder of numerous dummies, remained in place, having undergone significant simplifications. Having accumulated a sufficient number of experience points, we can improve one of Starkiller’s seven skills.
Despite all his coolness and hurricane-like seething of the Force, Starkiller learned to do only one fatality for each type of more or less serious opponents. However, this time the developers did not skimp on really big bosses. The gigantic Gorog will destroy the arena where General Kota was kept locked up, slightly disrupting the city’s ecosystem.
But still, there are a couple of interesting moments in the game that make you return with enthusiasm to choosing a side on the shaky edge of the Force. Episodes with a vertical fall look very spectacular and large-scale, causing the pulse to quicken and the pupils to dilate in delight. Being in free fall, dodging various obstacles is quite fun and funny. After the cloning process, our protégé became so cool that if he fell to the ground from a height of orbit, he wouldn’t even need a change of underwear. The moments where we need to quickly run across a collapsing bridge also look very impressive.
The second interesting point is the violence of the Force, driving us into a frantic rage. In this state, we are able to knead mince left and right, putting Rambo in our belt in the number of victims per second.
The ridiculous length of the game makes you look questioningly at the developers. Now it has become fashionable to release multiple DLC or break the game into episodes, but Force Unleashed 2 looks like an add-on to the still-awaited second part.
